Lent 2021
As we prepare our minds for our Lenten journey, there are many ways to participate here at Cross and Crown.

Lent Worship Schedule
Pastor Ted will offer a pre-recorded service each Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday during Lent.  You may find the services here on the website beginning at 6 a.m.
Lent begins on February 17, Ash Wednesday.  It looks a little different this year.  We can not gather in our sanctuary but the message is still the same.
Pastor Ted will have a pre-recorded worship service available on the website here beginning at 6 a.m.  However, we can not receive the mark of the cross with ashes virtually.  Therefore, Pastor Ted will be having a Drive Through Ash Disposition event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  You stop your car by the bike rack near Pastor's office and he will come out to dispose of ashes and say a prayer.

Confession & Prayer Service
Psalm 51

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and put a new and right spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from your presence,
and do not take your holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and sustain in me a willing spirit..
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and will be forever.

God created us to experience joy in communion with him, to love all humanity, and to live in harmony with all of his creation. But sin separates us from God, our neighbors, and creation, and so we do not enjoy the life our Creator intended for us. Also, by our sin we grieve our Father, who does not desire us to come under his judgment, but to turn to him and live.

As disciples of the Lord Jesus we are called to struggle against everything that leads us away from love of God and neighbor. Repentance, fasting, prayer, and works of love—the discipline of Lent—help us to wage our spiritual warfare. I invite you, therefore, to commit yourselves to this struggle and confess your sins, asking our Father for strength to persevere in your Lenten discipline.

Most holy and merciful Father:

We confess to you and to one another, and to the whole communion of saints in heaven and on earth, that we have sinned by our own fault in thought, word, and deed; by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart, and mind, and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have not forgiven others, as we have been forgiven.

Have mercy on us, Lord.

We have been deaf to your call to serve as Christ served us. We have not been true to the mind of Christ. We have grieved your Holy Spirit.
Have mercy on us, Lord.

We confess to you, Lord, all our past unfaithfulness. The pride, hypocrisy, and impatience in our lives, we confess to you, Lord. Our self-indulgent appetites and ways, and our exploitation of other people,
we confess to you, Lord.

Our anger at our own frustration, and our envy of those more fortunate than ourselves,
we confess to you, Lord.

Our intemperate love of worldly goods and comforts, and our dishonesty in daily life and work,
we confess to you, Lord.

Our negligence in prayer and worship, and our failure to commend the faith that is in us,
we confess to you, Lord.

Accept our repentance, Lord, for the wrongs we have done. For our blindness to human need and suffering, and our indifference to injustice and cruelty, accept our repentance, Lord. For all false judgments, for uncharitable thoughts toward our neighbors, and for our prejudice and contempt toward those who differ from us, accept our repentance, Lord. For our waste and pollution of your creation, and our lack of concern for those who come after us,
accept our repentance, Lord.

Restore us, good Lord, and let your anger depart from us.
Hear us, Lord, for your mercy is great. Amen

Holy Scripture:
Luke 1
And Mary said,
‘My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant.
  Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
  and holy is his name.
His mercy is for those who fear him
  from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
  and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
  in remembrance of his mercy,
according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.’

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread,
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil,
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and forever.

Almighty God, Father, + Son, and Holy Spirit, bless us now and forever.

Go in peace. Serve the Lord.

Lent Bags
At the Drive Through Ashes event you may pick up your bag for Lent.  These bags include numerous activities to help you prepare your hearts and minds for these 40 days, a palm cross, and a bag of communion packets to be used for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
If you were unable to attend the event on Ash Wednesday, your bag will be delivered to you.  If you did not receive one, please contact Kim in the church office.

Lenten Devotions
Pastor Ted has created a daily devotion for us that takes us through Luther's small catechism.   It is important to be reminded of our affirmation of faith and why we believe what we do.  Enjoy!
Note:  Remember Sundays are not counted in the forty days of Lent.  There are no devotions on those days.

                                                  Easter Sunday Devotion

Stations of the Cross
Pastor Ted is making available the Stations of the Cross series that he recorded last year.  These will be available beginning on March 23 until Easter Sunday.  The written scripts and artworks will be uploaded soon.

Easter Sunday
Council is waiting until closer to Easter to decide if it is safe to meet in person.
We are currently planning for an 11 a.m. in-person worship service in our courtyard.
We will keep you informed.
Wherever we are, we can celebrate in the knowledge that HE IS RISEN!
